Welp, this section didn’t go conpletely as planned. A wildfire just miles from trail forced us to skip down after just a day and a half of the northern section of the winds.
This did provide the benefit of getting new shoes early tho!
So we ended up skipping down to Pinedale, Wy and got back onto the trail and hiked north a little bit to be able to do the Knapsack Col alternate. Toolman decided not to do this alternate and hiked ahead. Frito and I set out to do it together, walking back towards the forest fire and the smoke.
Unfortunately, after hiking about halfway up the col together, Frito stopped for lunch while I ate snacks as I climbed. This ultimately meant that Frito was delayed by a thunderstorm that started just as I reached the top. Meaning that I did not see him again for the rest of the section and he reached town almost a full day behind Toolman and I — who I also didn’t catch.
The next day was rather uneventful other than a hailstorm
Then onto the circe of the towers alternate. It was really nice the first day but rained all of the second.
And then a half day out to Lander, Wy, where I was finally able to ditch my bear spray and bear bag.
